Dr. Alexander has received key endorsements from Riverside County Office of Education Superintendent, Dr. Edwin Gomez, California State Assembly, Jose Medina (AD-60) and former Riverside Unified School District Trustee, Ofelia Valdez-Yeager

RIVERSIDE, CA – Dr. Noemi Hernandez Alexander, a lifelong educator, parent, and Riverside resident, has announced her candidacy for the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD), Area 1. 

“I have dedicated my life to advocating for our youth and families like mine as an educator and mother,” stated Dr. Hernandez Alexander. “With my extensive experience serving the community and professional background in education, I am confident that I can serve our community and be a voice for our families. We must center our children in every decision we make because they are our future workforce and community leaders. So we must invest in social emotional learning programs, support our teachers, and maintain a safe and equitable learning environment for all students.”

Dr. Hernandez Alexander was a first-generation college student who earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. Master of Arts in Public Administration and Policy from California State University, Long Beach, and a Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Political Science from Claremont Graduate University. She is currently the Department Chair at California Baptist University (CBU) in History and Government and the Assistant Professor of Public Administration and Political Science. In 2002, Dr. Hernandez Alexander was appointed by California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi as a consumer advocate to California’s Assigned Risk Plan and Low-Cost Auto Program.

Her community involvement includes being a member of the Racial Equity Taskforce at CBU, Anti-Racist Riverside Citizen Coalition, Sandals Abolitionist against Human Trafficking, educator at Soroptimist Corona, and mentoring college-aged women.

Dr. Hernandez Alexander is married to Dex Alexander, a local Riverside small business owner, raising their two children in Riverside.

Dr. Noemi Hernandez Alexander is a professor of political science with a specialization in Race, Ethnicity, and Politics. She focuses her research on Latinos in the U.S. and the intersection of race, religion, and politics. She is a public speaker on the integration of faith in social justice, racial reconciliation, and the strength of women in society. She advocates racial diversity, equity, and inclusion for organizational change. She is a mentor and champion of women who are living their purpose. She resides in Riverside with her husband, Dex, and two children.
